China's Imported Poultry Meat in Aug

China imported a total of 113,957 tons of poultry products in Aug 2022, a YoY decrease of 15% while the import value was 432.27 million US dollars with a rise of 26% in its import value compared with last year. It can be seen that despite the decline in its volume its average import price surged.

 

According to GACC, China imported a total of 113,957 tons of poultry products in Aug 2022, a YoY decrease of 15% while the import value was 432.27 million US dollars with a rise of 26% in its import value compared with last year. It can be seen that despite the decline in its volume its average import price surged from 2553 US$/T in last Aug to 3793 US$/T on Aug 2022.

 

From Jan to Aug, China imported 910,535 tons of poultry products, a YoY decline of 5.7% but the import value showed a YoY increase of 22.7%, with 2.67 billion dollars cumulatively imported.

 

In Aug, the top 3 imported poultry product in China were frozen chicken feet, frozen mid-joint chicken wings, frozen chicken cuts with bone with 61,354 tons, 29,848 tons, 14,085 tons, accounting for 53.84%, 26.19%, 12.36% respectively. The proportion of imported chicken feet products increased by 7.88 percentage points year-on-year. The import proportion of frozen chicken cuts with bone decreased from 20.11% last Aug, down 7.75 pp.

 

For source countries, although Brazil still boasts the top source country for poultry products, its proportion accounted for 37.23% this Aug, down 12.55 pp from 49.78% year-on-year. Except for Brazil, Russia, Thailand, Belarus, Argentina, Turkey, Chile all increased their shares, especially Thailand, Russia and Belarus. The import volume from US showed little change compared with last year as HPAI still disturbed many states in America. Four plants from Thailand resumed exporting according to the customs at end-July, which is estimated to have more products arriving at ports in the future.
