China’s Livestock Production Develop Stably in Q1

In the first quarter, the national production of pork, cattle, sheep, and poultry meat was 24.56 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 610,000 tons (2.5%). Hog selling volume increased slightly, yet its inventory fell month-on-month. The production of cattle and sheep develop stably, and the production of poultry meat and egg went up.

In the first quarter, the national selling volume of live pig was 198.99 million head, up 3.33 million (1.7%) YoY. The pork production was 15.9 million tons, an increase of 290,000 tons (1.9%). At the end of Q1, the hog inventory of 430.94 million head, an increase of 8.42 million(2.0%) YoY, but dropped 21.61 million(4.8%) MoM. Among them, the breeding sow inventory was 430.05 million, a YoY increase of 1.2 million (2.9%), dropping 850,000 (1.9%) MoM. The pig production capacity reduced gradually.

 

The production of cattle and sheep develop stably and the production of meat and milk went up. 11.9 million head of cattle have been sold nationwide in Q1, a YoY increase of 520,000 (4.6%); The production of beef was 1.8 million tons, a YoY increase of 90,000 tons (5.1%). In the first quarter, sheep have been sold 74.27 million heads, an increase of 3.35 million heads (4.7%) compared with last year; mutton production was 1.11 million tons, a YoY increase of 50,000 tons (5.0%). At the end of Q1, the national cattle inventory 102.64 million, up 3.8% year-on-year, an MoM increase of 0.5%. The national inventory of sheep totaled 331.77 million heads, up 3.3% year-on-year, and up 1.7% MoM.

 

Poultry production has developed steadily, with an increase in poultry meat and eggs. In Q1, a total of 3.81 billion poultry were sold nationwide, a YoY increase of 110 million (3.0%); poultry meat production was 5.75 million tons, a YoY increase of 180,000 tons (3.2%). At the end of Q1, the national inventory of poultry is 6.12 billion, up 2.9% year-on-year, and dropped 9.6% MoM.
