According to a joint statement issued recently by China and Brazil, both parties welcomed the efforts and cooperation of the respective agencies for the resumption of Brazilian beef exports

 

Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva paid a state visit to China from April 12 to 15. The two nations issued a joint statement on deepening ties.

 

Both parties endorsed the strategic nature of bilateral cooperation in agriculture and agricultural trade. They expressed their satisfaction with the agreements reached by the authorities of both countries on sanitary and phytosanitary issues and food safety. They pledged to encourage the strengthening of dialogue in these areas with the firm purpose of promoting the development of safe and smooth trade in food and agricultural products between the two countries.

 

The Brazilian side reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that the establishments recommended for registration in China meet requirements, and the Chinese side reaffirmed the authorization, in accordance with procedures, of the establishments that meet requirements.

 

Both parties agreed to develop technical cooperation towards the prevention and control of avian influenza disease, including the discussion of requirements for country free of avian influenza. The Chinese side expressed its willingness to strengthen exchanges with the Brazilian side on the prevention and control of avian influenza. The Brazilian side reaffirmed its commitment to reinforcing prevention and control measures to continue its status of being free of avian influenza.

 

The Chinese side is willing to speed up the risk assessment process of the foot-and-mouth free zone on the Brazilian side. And the Brazilian side is committed to invite, as soon as possible, the Chinese authorities to visit Brazil to carry out "in loco" evaluations. Both parties will jointly promote the relative evaluation and recognition work.
