The price of commercial cattle tended to rise this week due to restart of China's imports, but the rise hasn't been significant yet, mainly in the state of São Paulo.

In the first four weeks of March, Brazil shipped totally 107,471 tons of beef at an average price of $4,825 per ton. In the fourth week, 17,664 tons were shipped and the average price continued to contract to $4631/ton, with an average daily shipment of 3,533 ton. It is a far cry from the level of export 8,000 tons per day before the suspension of import to China. With the resumption of exports to China on March 23, both export volume and average price are expected to gradually return to normal levels.

MAPA sent to the Chinese side a list of 50 slaughter plants to be authorized, including beef, pork and poultry processing plants. Industry sources revealed that about half of them are beef plants, including 12 plants owned by the three major companies JBS/Marfrig/Minerva.

Minerva and Marfrig announced last Thursday that the beef slaughter and production of the Chinese market has been restarted. Brazilian Meat Exporters Association assessed that Brazilian beef exports to the China will return to normal soon.
