The Chinese Market Remained Stable After the Suspension of Brazilian Beef Exports

In the 10th week of 2023 (Feb 27 to Mar 5), there was no big change in the Chinese market. The diagnosis of Brazil's mad cow case did not change the expectations of Brazilian exporters. They predicted that with the visit of Brazil’s President to China, exports to China would reopen at the end of March.

China's demand for beef from Argentina and Uruguay was more, but the transaction price has not changed. The demand for alternative proteins such as pork and chicken was also more active.

 

China said it would resume Brazilian beef from Brazil "in due time"

The Chinese authorities have sent a signal to the Brazilian government that beef imports will be resumed "in due course". On Feb 7, the Brazilian Ministry of Agriculture submitted the latest technical information to the GACC (General Administration of Customs of China) at a bilateral meeting. The information showed that BSE detected on an old cow in Para in February was an isolated and atypical case.
