Analysis of Pork Import in 2022

In 2022, China's pork and offal imports totaled 2.863 million tons, down 48.7% YoY. The import volume of pork decreased by 52.6% YoY to 1.758 million tons. From the perspective of specific monthly import data, the import volume in January was 150,000 tons, and then fell back, with the lowest value of 122,000 tons in July; In August, the price of pork and the import volume rebounded. In December, the import volume was 200,000 tons, up 20.1% YoY.

The import volume of pork decreased by 52.6% YoY to 1.758 million tons. From the perspective of specific monthly import data, the import volume in January was 150,000 tons, and then fell back, with the lowest value of 122,000 tons in July; In August, the price of pork and the import volume rebounded. In December, the import volume was 200,000 tons, up 20.1% YoY.

 

From the perspective of the specific monthly CIF prices, the import volume in the first three quarters of 2022 decreased as a whole compared with the same period in 2021, while the CIF prices in September increased slightly. The import price in January was 2,175 USD/T, then it dropped to 2,160 USD/T in May. In June it began to rise. The CIF import price in September was 2540 USD/T. The import price in December increased significantly, reaching 2621 USD/T, up 20.72% YoY.

 

From the perspective of import source countries and regions, China's pork imports mainly come from 18 countries and regions, including Spain (27.0%), Brazil (23.7%), Denmark (11.1%), the United States (7.2), the Netherlands (7.0%), Canada (6.5%), Chile (4.4%), the United Kingdom (4.2%), France (3.7%) and Ireland (2.1%), accounting for 96.9% of the total. The exports of these ten countries and regions to China have declined to varying degrees.

 

In terms of pig offal, the cumulative import volume in 2022 was 1.105 million tons, down 14.6% YoY. From the view of the specific monthly import data, the import volume from January to October in 2022 was at a low level, with a slight fluctuation, and the import volume began to show signs of recovery in November. The main countries and regions importing pig offal include the United States (26.7%), Spain (21.4%), Denmark (14.4%), the Netherlands (11.3%), France (7.1%), the United Kingdom (4.8%), Canada (4.7%), Chile (3.5%), Ireland (2.2%) and Brazil (2.0%), accounting for 98.2% in total.
