For source countries, New Zealand and Australia are still the main players exporting mutton products to China with 13,400 tons and 9,800 tons respectively in June, adding up to a total of 95.42%.

For imported categories, frozen bone-in mutton accounted for the largest share of imports with about 20,000 tons in June, a YoY decrease of 19%. The import volume of frozen boneless mutton was 2,155.13 tons in June, a YoY decline of 45%. Imports of fresh or cold bone-less lamb slumped the most YoY in June by 98%.

Outdoor consumption of mutton accounts for a large proportion. The rebound of the epidemic and the decline in consumption are the main reasons for the decline in mutton prices. In addition, the domestic output of mutton has increased steadily since H2 2017 as farmers are highly motivated. In July and August the weather is scorching hot thus the consumption of beef and mutton is in the off-season when consumers have a lower desire to buy beef and mutton products.
