Mainland China’s Chilled Beef Imports Volume Stopped Falling to Rise

In May of this year, beef imports in mainland China show a significant increase. In terms of categories, both chilled and frozen beef imports have rebounded obviously this month.

 

 

In May of this year, beef imports in mainland China show a significant increase. In terms of categories, both chilled and frozen beef imports have rebounded obviously this month.

 

The import volume of frozen beef reached 216,000 tons, with YoY growth of 32% and MoM growth of 15%. It was also a new high for the same period that it exceeded 200,000 tons for the first time this year. 

 

The import volume of chilled beef was 4,110 tons, a slight increase of 8% month-on-month. Compared with 3,310 tons in the same period last year, it rebounded significantly by 24%.

 

The import value of chilled beef in May was US$52.56 million, with YoY growth of 45% and MoM increase of 4%. Its average in May reached US$12,789 per ton, which still keeps running high although falling by US$522 per ton, a MoM decrease of 4%.

 

From January to May this year, the cumulative import volume of chilled beef in mainland China was nearly 23,000 tons, a significant increase of 21% from 19,000 tons in the same period last year, reaching a historical peak in the same period.
