Argentine government will continue to relax the beef trap and in September refrigerators will be able to export 15% more. They will be a total of 34,500 tons beef over the tariff quotas. The measure comes at a time when the new economic team is seeking to send signals to the field to swell the reserves of the Banco Central.

With the current lock, the sector was allowed to sell some 30,000 tons of bovine cuts outside the quotas to the United States, Israel, Europe, and the categories of cows D and E for China. In August, the Government enabled another 3,000 to be added to that figure including all livestock categories, making it possible to export a total of 33,000.

In September, this additional will be maintained and another 1,500 will be added for which we will arrive at an extra 4500 tons about what the meat trap made possible before the landing of Serge Massa to the Ministry of Economy. However, the export of the 7 popular cuts (asado, brisket, matambre, tapa, buttock, shoulder and empty).

The measure was communicated this Monday by the Secretary of Agriculture, John Joseph Bahilloin a meeting attended by the president of the Argentine Meat Exporters Consortium (ABC), Mario Ravettinohis peer from the Union of the Argentine Meat Industry (UNICA), Gustavo Valsangiacomoand the vice president of the Federation of Argentine Regional Refrigeration Industries (FIFRA), Daniel Urcia.

Although at first the versions indicated that negotiations were underway to fully open the export market to add an additional 100,000 tons until the end of the year, in the end that number will be lower and the exportable quota will be defined on a monthly basis.

“The situation will be analyzed every month. Under the livestock supply, the behavior of prices and the international scenario. A balance quota will be established for that particular month. In the case of August, they gave 3,000 more tons, that is to say a 10% increase, and for September they will be 4,500, which represents 15% more”, detailed a source from the refrigeration sector consulted by TN.

Although it transpired that those 4,500 extra tons would be equivalent to about US$30 million, the source consulted preferred not to give specific figures. “That depends on how each plant uses the volume and what it is used for. That is where the production and sales program of each refrigerator begins to play. It is not the same as being sold to Europe for US$12,000, to Chile for US$4,500 or China for US$6,000″, he exemplified.

The sector expects end this year with the commercialization of some 620 thousand tons of product weight abroad, which is equivalent to about 850 thousand tons of beef with bone and the revenue of about $3.6 billion.
