China Mainland Imports of Poultry Meat in Oct Show Yearly Drop in the Volume Yet Prices Increased

According to the data released by GACC, 97,176 tons of poultry products arrived at Chinese ports, valuing 357,89 million US dollars in Oct 2022.

 

According to the data released by GACC, 97,176 tons of poultry products arrived at Chinese ports, valuing 357,89 million US dollars in Oct 2022.

 

It needs to mind that the import value has increased by 15% year-on-year despite the drop in the import volume of 21% compared with imports in last Oct. The average import price rose from 2,515 US$/T to 3,683 US$/T, surging by almost 1,100 US$/T.

 

Imports of poultry products in Oct including frozen chicken paws, frozen mid-joint chicken wings, frozen bone-in chicken cuts, other frozen chicken offal, frozen turkey cuts and offal, chilled or frozen chicken gizzards, frozen whole chicken, other frozen chicken cuts, accounting for 46.76%, 22.20%, 20.99%, 7.01%, 1.47%, 0.46%, 0.32%, and 0.79%. Despite frozen mid-joint chicken wings (+1%) and chilled or frozen chicken gizzards (+45%), all other categories show a YoY declining trend of import volumes.

 

The top 5 imported source countries are Brazil, the US, Russia, Thailand and Argentina, accounting for 41.93%, 19.84%, 10.47%, 8.97%, 6.64% respectively, among which it can be found that the market shares from Brazil and the US have dropped by 6.20 p.p. (percentage points) and 4.58 p.p. yea-on-year. Other countries such as Russia, Thailand, and Belarus enjoy a YoY increase of more than 2 p.p.
