1.22 Million Tons of Pork Products Entered China, Slumping 61.2% Than Last Year

China imported 1.22 million tons of fresh, chilled and frozen pork products from Jan to Sept this year with a YoY slump of 61.2%.

 

China imported 1.22 million tons of fresh, chilled and frozen pork products from Jan to Sept this year with a YoY slump of 61.2%. Main source countries are Spain, Spain, Brazil, Denmark, the United States and Canada, accounting for 28.2%, 22.7%, 9.7%, 7.4% and 6.0% of the total import, adding to 74.1% in total, dropping 65.5%, 31.3%, 59.9%, 75.3% and 66.4%, respectively year-on-year.

 

Monthly import volume in Jan was 150,000 tons, declined even to the lowest 122,000 tons in July. Later, the rebounded domestic pig price in Aug increased the import volume. In terms of monthly CIF imports, September welcomed the first year-on-year rise. The import price dropped to 13.27 yuan/kg in Jan and fell to 12.29 yuan/kg in May with 34.7% decline compared with last year. In June the price rebounded and touched 15.96 yuan/kg in Sept with a slightly year-on-year rise of 0.6%.

 

China imported 818,000 tons of pork offal in the first nine months this year, down 16.2% compared with last year. Products were mainly from the United States (25.4%), Spain (22%), Denmark (14.7%), Netherlands (11.3%), France (7.8%), UK (4.5%), Canada (4.5%), Chile (3.8%), total accounted for 93.7%. The average monthly import volume is usually around 90,000 tons.

 

Moreover, 3,130 breeding pigs were imported from Jan to Sept, 1,407 heads from US, 1,123 heads from Denmark, and 600 heads from France.
